Last week I explained my thoughts about AI and how you might use it for your handmade business.
But you might understandably be wondering:
But Deb . . . HOW do I use ChatGPT?
Or
What prompts do I need to type to get helpful content from it?
So this week we’re going to take a look at ChatGPT and I’m going to give you some video examples showing how to use it: first we’ll create 20 posts for an Instagram campaign, then we’ll use Chap GPT to create some Pinterest pin titles and descriptions, and finally we’ll use it to create some product descriptions.
So, ready? Let’s dive in.
Now the first thing I want to explain is that there isn’t a “perfect template” to use for ChatGPT, because even if you start with a specific template – and what I mean by template is the prompt that you type into ChatGPT asking for information – no matter what template you start with, it’s highly unlikely that you will get a perfect result the first time around.
Let’s look at an example to show you what I mean, in this first example we’re going to ask ChatGPT to create a month of Instagram captions for us. Let’s dive into it.
So that is my first example, now let’s head over into the second one which is for Pinterest pin titles and descriptions.
For this one I went to Google first to just find an example and typed in I honestly can’t remember what but something like ‘cute summer girl dress” or something like that and I ended up on this website:
Next let’s move on to example 3 and use ChatGPT to write some product descriptions.
You know, you could probably keep going for a couple more answers to the point where you have a structure and a template that you’re happy with. And then you could start another ChatGPT session with that template and say “Act as a copywriter and use this template to come up with a conversion-optimized description for this product.”
And then below that, you will add the product information that it needs to create this product description for you. It won’t be perfect the first round, but it will be very quick. And you’ll see very quickly where you want to improve it – you might notice it’s lacking bullet points, it’s lacking structure, it’s lacking formatting, and you can just tell it, “I need more formatting and more structure, I want the voice to be different” – you essentially go back into this kind of back and forth with it until you get to where you want.

So as you can see, it’s never like this perfect thing that people hope it will be where you say “Please do this” and it does it perfectly for you. It may take you the same amount of time it would have taken you to come up with something average yourself – like your first average draft.
BUT now in that same amount of time you can have a very solid optimized description that you’re really happy with. And you can say “bye-bye” to the blank page syndrome that we all experience when it comes to copywriting.
So when you use ChatGPT you can’t skip knowing about your audience, knowing storytelling, knowing your brand voice – like all these really foundational strategic things that you need to understand about your business and be very clear on in your mind.
You also still need to have the strategic information that you know about each platform, for example, do you want hashtags or not? What keywords do you need?
You still need to have this information – ChatGPT isn’t going to know it – but then you can input it and get really good outcomes much faster than you would on your own.
