If you’ve been reading a few of my articles you might have noticed that I mention “Tizzit HQ” at the beginning of each one…
OR if you are thinking of opening a handmade shop, or you have a handmade shop and you want to grow your business, you may have found Tizzit HQ on the internet and now you’re wondering “what exactly do you DO inside Tizzit HQ?”
That’s a very good question to ask, and it made me realize I need to follow my own advice and write an article about it 😂— because if I don’t explain to you what we do, then I’m not really doing a really good job at marketing am I?
So let’s fix that straightaway and talk about what Tizzit HQ is and how it can help you.
Now… this article is NOT going to be a pitch – I’m not going to have a special offer at the end of this article or anything like that…
My goal is really just to share with you what we do inside of Tizzit HQ – so that if you’re interested in growing your business and you want to know how you can get help beyond just my free articles and YouTube videos, you have the information you need to decide if you want to take that next step.
So, ready? Let’s dive in.
So let’s start this off by explaining why I decided to start Tizzit HQ!
Starting with the 10-second version of my “AHA moment!” – and that is:
One day, I was working 1-on-1 as a handmade business coach with someone selling jewelry, and I realized that every new client I’d worked with was running into the same issue.
They were just not working on the right thing – and certainly not in the right order.
They had all the puzzle pieces for creating their handmade business – but they weren’t fitting them together in a way that would result in a compound effect that would slowly but surely build their business and their profits.
They’d ask me to help them get more visitors to their site for example… but had product photos that were less than great, a pricing strategy that didn’t allow them to scale and reinvest in their business, no strategic product collection to get more money from each order they got, things like that.
And bringing more traffic to a shop that doesn’t have those things in place… is like opening the tap over a bucket with a big fat hole at the bottom. It won’t work.
So they wanted me to fix something that wasn’t actually what needed fixing. I also saw a lot of makers who were basically “throwing spaghetti at the wall” and buying one online course after another, never seeing the results they wanted.
They would buy a course about one thing like SEO for $400. . .
Buy a course about a different thing like say Instagram for $200. . .
That course made them realize they needed to learn another thing like for example product photography for $300. . .
And so on and so forth.
It was just a super ineffective (and expensive!) way for people to navigate how to build their business.
Now building a business does require work.
I knew that there were many many things that a person needed to do and learn to build a business, and I felt like people were swimming in a “sea of overwhelm” when they tried to go through all the information available online.
Now there’s a few things I know about myself:
So I decided to create a place where everything you needed to know was organized and you could go through it in a logical order from A to Zed.
Enter… The Maker’s Roadmap™, my 4-stage framework for helping makers start and then grow successful and profitable handmade businesses, then created courses for every step of that process that would teach makers everything they needed to know at a fraction of the cost of all the piecemeal courses they had been paying for individually.
I then created a membership so that makers could access everything – videos, courses, downloads, you name it – for one reasonable price, and ta-daaaaaa! Tizzit HQ was born!
Let’s dive into exactly what’s included and how Tizzit HQ can help you with your handmade business.
The first – and very important – thing is the access you will get to my main framework, The Maker’s Roadmap™.
This is a 4-stage system that takes you from starting to planning, growing, and then scaling your handmade business.
DOWNLOAD THE MAKERS ROADMAP!
It’s designed to help you use what I call Business Thinking, and to prevent you from falling for what I call “The Cycle Of Short Term Tactics.” I won’t dive into too many details here, but essentially what this means is that I want you to have a solid business foundation so that every effort and all the time that you invest in your business is going to move the needle forward rather than getting stuck doing short-lived hack and tricks that will NOT help you build a successful business in the long run.
The Maker’s Roadmap™ makes sure of that by giving you everything you need in the right order, so that you’re not jumping ahead and working on things that are NOT a priority for the stage of growth you’re in.
This framework guides you through the process of building a business in the right way and in the right sequence, so you don’t need to ask yourself anymore “What should I be working on and in what order?” You just follow the steps, and by doing that you can be certain that you have a strong business foundation and that every step you take builds on the previous steps.
The Maker’s Roadmap on Tizzit HQ is like an interactive checklist – you start from the beginning and just follow the steps.
Something that’s quite important that I want to mention is that I don’t believe in “one size fits all,” and I have designed the Roadmap to reflect that. I don’t believe that you can go and replicate someone else’s success, because you have different skills, different goals, different things that you like and don’t like – not just for how you make your products, but also for how you want to go out and market your business. You’re a different person, you’re unique – we all are.
And so I’m teaching you those business concepts, but I’m also allowing you to decide what journey you’re going to take along this roadmap. I’m going to teach you how to bring traffic to your website, and then I’m going to help you decide if for YOU and for YOUR business the best choice to do that is Pinterest, for example, or Etsy SEO, or Instagram – or else.
There is no “one size fits all” – the Roadmap accounts for each unique business by guiding you to make the best decision for your specific business and your specific goals.
So that brings me to the next thing that you get when you join Tizzit HQ, which is our library of courses.
For each business decision you make as your work through the Roadmap, I have a course for you. So for example, if you’ve realized going through the marketing course that you needed to focus more on Pinterest, we have a course for that. If you decide that you need to focus on Instagram, we have a course for that.
You don’t need to go and hunt the internet for the next course that is going to help you with your next step – it’s already there waiting for you.
There are courses for pretty much anything you ever need to learn or do for your business.
The idea is not that you need to take all these courses – god no! and certainly not all at the same time – it is that they are here when you’re ready for them.
So when you’re ready to work on your pricing – we have a course for that. If you need help with your product photography, we have a course for that. And if you’re working on planning promotions for Christmas and for quarter 4, we have a course for that.
Now those courses are mostly taught by me – with a few additional classes taught by experts that I vetted and trust to bring you the absolute best quality of content.
These are not fluffy courses that barely touch on the surface of what you need to do — these are in-depth courses with modules and different lessons. They have templates, course materials, checklists – everything to really help you implement what you learn in the course as easily and as quickly as possible.
Another thing you get with your membership is coaching calls and accountability calls.
Coaching calls happen once a month and those are with me!
In these calls I do a deep dive into two members’ businesses: they tell me whatever issues they might be having or whatever next step they want to be taking. It can be anything from their marketing strategy to their pricing to pivoting or adding new products – basically anything they are wondering how to do or any obstacle they are trying to overcome, and then I help them with that project or issue.
You can submit your business to be considered if you’re a member, but you’ll also learn a lot by watching those calls and learning from what other makers are going through in their business.
Our accountability calls happen once a month on Zoom. In these calls, you work with a small group of other members that are going to be your accountability partners for the month. You reflect on how your goals for the last month went – what worked and what didn’t, then you decide what goals you’re going to focus on for the coming month. Your accountability partners are going to keep you accountable for those goals for that month – so that month after month you set and reach goals inside of your business.
Another feature you get access to is my shop reviews.
Every month we accept three shop applications, and I essentially share my screen and review the shop. These can be websites or Etsy shops.
In these shop reviews you can watch me analyze someone’s website as well as details like their Etsy SEO or their product photography, and give them tips to increase sales and conversion. You will see me giving feedback on shop details like copy, shop listing, structure, branding, photography, SEO . . . all that stuff!
Again, you can obviously apply to have a full shop review yourself, but you will learn a lot by accessing our “vault,” which is our library of shop reviews, and learning from what I’ve recommended to others.
The last thing you get access to – last but not least – is our amazing community inside of Tizzit HQ. It’s a community just for members, and it’s very different from any other communities I’ve personally seen out there.
Now, if you’ve been in the handmade niche world for even just a little bit, you may have come across some free or paid communities, and the free ones especially will often have free Facebook groups.
There are many free communities and groups of makers out there that have an unreasonably negative tone – the ones full of really negative conversations, nasty feedback, and comments.
And generally speaking, discussions are more geared around what’s wrong and what’s broken, and what you hear are not very helpful opinions, hearsays, and guesses around what a platform should be about.
You won’t find anything like this inside of the Tizzit HQ community. It was designed to be positive minded – and is – but we also think critically. Positive minded doesn’t mean we can’t talk about problems – obviously we’re here to help you fix potential problems you might run into as you grow your business.
But what it means to be positive minded and to think critically means that we look and we talk about solutions to problems instead of talking just about the problems themselves. So it’s data not drama, facts not fiction, strategy not panic, solutions not problems.
We focus on what you can control to help you successfully show up because we know this is how you will find the success that you truly want and that you truly deserve, both now and also for years to come.
For this reason, something else that is really important to us is that we really encourage honest and constructive feedback, be it positive or negative.
Negative feedback is as important if not more than positive feedback, we just ask that it’s always delivered respectfully (which most free FB groups are terrible at! Why are people so mean to each other? There’s no need!). In the HQ community we’ve created a space where you can ask and receive wonderful, kind, actionable feedback that’s really going to help you move the needle forward in your business.
I mentioned this a little already but one of our core philosophies inside of the community and Tizzit HQ in general is that there’s no one size fits all. You are uniquely you and so is every other member that’s part of the community. You have your own set of personal and financial goals – we’re a diverse bunch and we embrace those differences.
So that means that we’re going to support each other reaching our individual goals and learning from all of our diverse experiences.
In our community we have people who are just getting started, and we have people who have years of experience and thousands and thousands of sales $ behind them.
We believe in community over competition. I know that in the free groups I mentioned earlier, a lot of people don’t want to be sharing or feel like if they share, someone else is going to be stealing their idea – but none of that is happening inside of Tizzit HQ. It’s really about learning and supporting each other – if one of us wins, then we all win.
Members believe in the power of paying it forward — because what you give there comes back to you tenfold.
I’m also adding a link to our community guidelines so that you can get a vibe for how we work inside of the community. These aren’t really “guidelines”per se – not in the boring sense anyway, they’re actually full of tips to help you get really good feedback and help leverage other people’s experiences in any community you might be in to help you grow your business.
So whether you decide to join Tizzit HQ or not, I think that reading these will really help you understand which Facebook groups you should leave (psssst…. It’s probably most of them) because they’re not helping you and they’re dragging you down, plus show you examples of how to ask for feedback and ask for help when it comes to your business.
So this is what Tizzit HQ is – this is how we can help you not only get the step-by-step guidance, the courses, and the tools for building your business, but also get the support, the encouragement, the coaching, and the community of other handmade sellers just like yourself who really get what you’re going through.
